Occupation influences on Librarianship in Japan, 1945-1952

Librarianship and library services in Japan changed significantly during the period 1945 to 1952 with the creation of a new national library (National Diet Library), the first college-level education program for librarians at Keio University, and a library law requiring professional qualifications for librarians. This study, based primarily on English language sources, explores the role of U.S. and, especially, Californian, influences on these developments.
